Am I Missing Something?

OK, first I am not the smartest person when it comes to the economy, government or politics. Second I have a very limited knowledge of the role of government in business. This being said, I am identifying myself as a Southerner and thus I believe in Small Federal Government. (Yes I work for them, as do the majority of the people I know.) I believe that state rights are paramount and that our founding fathers wanted the same thing. Yes there needs to be federal oversight, but states should have the right to govern themselves without say Florida telling Virginia what they should do. (Not picking on Florida, just the state that popped into my head.)

Anyway ... AIG???? Since when does the government own businesses? The Fed now owns 79.9% of AIG. And where in god's name are they getting $85 billion. That's BILLION with a B! I understand that something had to be done. AIG is a huge company that if it failed would have global ramifications. But the government essentially owning a company, that doesn't sit right with me.

I don't mean to start a firestorm talking about this, but it is frightening that our government is continually bailing people or companies out of problems. Again I am not saying nothing should have been done, but I am wondering if this is the right solution ... "hey guys crank up the printer we need some more cash."

The good news about all this is that since the goverment owns AIG now that means we own it. So, when they start handing out the huge bonuses to the owners (us) we get a piece of the pie. So what the company is losing money hand over fist. It is the American way screw the little people so the top dogs (us) get richer.

States' rights!
Hoorah for the Bonnie Blue Flag!
This, of course, is coming from someone whose great grandfather was named Robert Lee.
