My Grandma Peggy turned 92 on Sunday. So our family along with my parents loaded into the minivan and headed to Pennsylvania to celebrate. And we did just that. There was a gentleman who plyed the piano and my grandma along with the other residents sang songs and carols. She had a ball singing and listening to the music. I am so happy we were able to go and celebrate 92 years of life! And I hope we can celebrate 93 and many more.
I cannot say enough about this sweet woman. Many of my early childhood memories consist of her. I remember certain sayings, gestures and her expressions. One of my favorite words that she used rather consistently through out my entire life was piddle. Most often the phrase was used like this: "Do you need to piddle?". Another of my most vivid memories is her making me buttered toast in the morning. There was something about her toast and to this day no toast tastes as good as hers does.
I say all this because sadly age has caught up with her and she doesn't remember a lot, including some of her loved ones. She can recognize people but can't place them. This hasn't stopped her from being the loving woman that I grew up with. She is still as sweet and kind as I remember. I want to take however long she has to not feel sad for how she is now, but remember the Lady who helped shape the person I am today. That woman is still inside her and wants all of her family to remember her the way she was. The kind, generous, loving person who taught me the real meaning of the word GrandMother. She is just that, grand.
